Nagananda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (NIIBS) was a project initiated by Ven. Dr. Bodagama Chandima Thero, within the land, adjoining the Manelwatte Temple in Kelaniya, with Donor funding from China and Taiwan. The project is a concept design by the Buddhist monk & architect Ven Wong, and was taken up for schematic and design development up to construction by ACS Integrated, under a Design & Build Contract by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). After CHEC withdrew from the project by mutual consent in 2016, ACS Integrated continued as the architects on the invitation of the owners. The project now functions with all classrooms and the auditorium building completed, and accommodation buildings nearing completion.
